A Memorandum for "Modelling of PKS B 1934-638 (J193925.0-634245) as UHF and L-Band calibrator for MeerKAT", Hugo et al. (2021) (DOI).
We publish a model of the Gigahertz Peaked quasar PKS B 1934-638. The source is a milliarcsecond scale passband and flux scale calibrator in use by, for instance, the Compact Array. We show the effect of neglecting off-axis sources on the transferred bandpass solutions. We supply an end user model of the calibrator and the surrounding AGN population, in the apparent scale, for use in calibrating the bandpasses of the 64 homogeneous MeerKAT array in both UHF and L-band. We find that, especially, at UHF band the bandpass solutions may be biased to the 40% level due to the surrounding AGN population. We additionally publish an estimate to the UHF band System Equivalent Flux Density for use in sensitivity estimation of continuum and spectral line observation. Finally we show that systemic second order leakages limit the achievable dynamic range next to very strong compact sources close to boresight to the level of -30 to -40 dB. After correcting with the CubiCal calibration package we achieve a MeerKAT dynamic range of 0.5m:1 immediately next to the strong calibrator source.
